Mission

The department aims to cultivate the students in the fields of product, management, harvest, processing, and quality control for biological systems by applying the mechatronics technology. After completing all the technical courses, students with capability of developing mechatronic system, automation technology, biological products processing and storage, biological system facilities and environmental control are expected.

Courses

There are graduate, undergraduate, and two-year technical programs in the Department of Biomechatronic Engineering.

Fundamentals and application of science is the core curriculum. Integration of different fields is emphasized in order to enhance the students with capability to apply knowledge. Control, inspection, and development of mechatronic system are concentrated to meet the requirements of biological industry. The courses include Calculus,General Physics,General Physics Lab,General Chemistry,General Chemistry Lab,Graphics,Machine Shop Practice,Electrical Engineering,Electrical Engineering Lab,Biology,Statics,Dynamics,Mechanics of Materials,Engineering Mathematics,Biological Industry Machinery,Biological Industry Machinery Lab,Thermodynamics,Physical Properties of Biological Materials,Automatic Control,Electronics and Electrical Circuits,Principles and Applications of Sensors,Principles and Applications of Microprocessors,Fluid Mechanics,Mechatronics.

Facilities

The department owns a teaching building and a practice plant.The teaching building accommodate computer classroom, electronic engineering laboratory, and graphics classroom .  At the practice plant ,there are machine shop, mechanical materials lab., biological materials analysis lab., engineering measurements lab., pneumatics lab., and mechatronics integration lab. Teaching equipment includes tractors, a large variety of biological processing machinery, engine dynamic testing device, CAD/CAM equipments, robotics, sensors experimental devices, and automatic machinery. These equipment and devices are located in the practice plant or the laboratories. The precision instrumentations for research and testing are texture analyzer, viscosity material analyzer, gas analyzer, laser dust monitor, acoustic inspector, spectrum analyzer, image acquisition device, thermo video system, and etc.

Perspectives

1.     To encourage the faculty to attend the academic activities around the world for promoting the teaching quality and research level.

2.     To encourage the faculty in closely related research areas to setup extraordinary laboratory for obtaining research projects and funds.

3.     To enhance the industrial cooperation in order to promote the teaching, research, and services.

Career Development

The graduates can engage in the related fields of biological industry for engineering system design, manufacture and maintenance. They also can study in the graduate school of biomechatronic engineering, mechanical eng., electrical eng., and food eng. for further education.
