Goals and Mission

      In response to the government policy, industry requirement, the trend of developing the global environment friendly natural materials and the ideals of technological development and environmental protection, the objectives of the Bachelor degree and the Master’s degree programs are to provide industry with well educated, highly trained and skilled professionals in the areas of theory, technology, management and forest products industry. Courses are offered in a wide variety of forest products science and utility. Physical properties and manufacture technology of wood, chemical processing and utility of forest products, automation control, planning and management of factory are the main programs. Graduates can have a chance to go into the company or private for developing their own career or pursue careers at government agencies, as well as to become a professional in their future careers.



Facilities

    There are four laboratories for wood physics, wood chemistry, adhesives and coatings, and wood-based materials. Specialized classrooms are for video, wood working drawing and automation. Two testing centers are for wood coating and imcombustion, a wood-working factory, national standard scale, is well equipped and qualified, and serves teaching and researching. Major equipment includes dynamic mechanical analyzer (DMA), differential scanning calorimeter (DSC), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), thermogravimetic analyzer (TGA), CNC router, combustion tester (CNS6532), weathering tester (QUV), pulping and paper making, ultrasonic testing, materials testing system, wood working machines, etc.

     Our development direction in research are focused on the application of fire resistance materials, high quality paper, paper-based cultural properties, utilization of renewable resource materials, environment friendly materials, wood extractives for bio-tech application, techniques of automation control, etc.





Perspectives

      Our future development direction in teaching and research will focus on the application of Furniture design and manufacture, Fire resistance materials, High quality paper, Utilization of renewable resource materials, Environment friendly materials, DIY wood products, Wood extractives for bio-tech application, Knife design and Computer aided manufacture (CAM), Techniques of automation control, and the field of New composite materials, Nondestructive testing techniques for Wood and Wood-based Materials, Development of low-prolusion coating, Improvement of traditional paper making methods, Structure design of wood house, Knife design etc.
