Nick Javier is an American jazz trombonist and vocalist who is influenced by a variety of music. His primary musical influences include Mile Davis, J. J. Johnson, Charlie Parker, James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Curtis Fuller, Thelonious Monk, and his hop culture.

Javier was raised in Mid-Michigan, where he grew up with a close friend whose father was a jazz musician. He was exposed to jazz music in this household through the father's encyclopedic record collection. The area where Javier grew up produced many talented jazz musicians, including Diego Rivera, Carl Cafagna, and Brad Goode.

Nick studied jazz at the Royal Conservatoire in the Netherlands where he was mentored by three great trombonists, Ilja Reingoud, Martin Sohier, and Arthur Moore. While at the Conservatory, Javier gained valuable experience by going to all the jam sessions and performing consistently in The Hague and Amsterdam. Javier was especially enriched by having the opportunity to perform at the North Sea Jazz Festival with Slide Hampton, Kenny Wheeler, Jim McNeely, and Gerald Wilson.

Javier continued his jazz education at Michigan State University, where he finished a Master of Music degree in jazz studies under the mentorship of Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra alumni; Rodney Whitaker, and Wes "Warmdaddy" Anderson. As a teaching assistant, Nick led and wrote arrangement for two octets and taught a jazz piano course. During this time, Nick was a member of several professional ensembles ranging from jazz, funk, soul, Puerto Rican salsa, and Cuban music in Michigan. He was a fixture on the Detroit jazz scene, performing several times at Baker's Keyboard Lounge, and with the Scott Gwinnel Jazz Orchestra.

Currently, Javier has established himself in the Taiwan jazz scene, playing all the major venues in the country. Nick has been a member of the Taiwan All-Stars since its inception for the Taichung Jazz Festival. Along with Javier, the band features Stacey Wei and Rich Huang. Javier also currently plays with Soy La Ley, The Killer 3000 Orchestra, his own trio with Jack Ko and Vincent Hsu, and his own soul cover-band, Sexual Chocolate. In 2011, Javier played lead trombone and was a featured soloist on the album "knives Out" with the Taipei Jazz Orchestra (Onyx Music Corp.). Also in 2011, as well as 2012, Nick was faculty at the NTCH (National Taiwan Concert Hall) Summer Jazz Camp with Albert "Tootie" Heath, Antonio Hart, Michael Phillip Mossman, Rich Huang, and Stacey Wei, performing in the National Hall. In 2013, Javier was invited to conduct master classes in Kasetsart University, Mahidol University, and Silpakorn University in Bangkok, Thailand. Nick was also part of the Rangsit University jazz faculty ensemble that performed in this year’s Thailand International Jazz Conference.

Nick plays in a King 3B trombone, but is currently developing a trombone with CarolBrass. Nick plays on Monette PRANA mouthpieces and his music is published by his own publishing company.
